ECONOMY NEWS

  • Wyoming employers will pay a 15% lower workers' compensation base rate starting January as Governor Mark Gordon approved the cut—bringing three years of reductions to a total of 33% and saving about $66 million in premiums. The measure follows a 6% reduction in 2024 and a 12% reduction in 2025 to help local businesses lower costs.  Wyoming News Now
  • Gas prices in Campbell County edged down this week as the national average fell 0.4 cent to $3.03 and local prices declined to $2.88 per gallon; Flying J stations along Douglas Highway posted the lowest price at $2.75 — AAA also reported similar small shifts in nearby areas.  County 17

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Gillette student Drea Hineman of the University of Wyoming earned regional recognition for her research on growing lettuce in reduced-gravity conditions to cope with salt buildup in soil—she began her experiments in a greenhouse at the Laramie Research and Extension Center using an automatic sensor-based irrigation system. She presented her work at a symposium in Boise and was selected as a NASA Space Grant Consortium fellow after ranking first among 29 undergraduates.  County 17
