COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today the Powder River Energy Foundation announced a donation of $40,000 to support families and food pantries this holiday season, giving $25,000 in grants to 19 local organizations across several counties. The foundation provided an extra $15,000 in relief to help food pantries manage increased demand from the federal government shutdown.  County 17

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Campbell County's average gas price increased by 22 cents to $2.92 this week, dropping it from the state's second cheapest to the tenth cheapest fuel option while the national average fell slightly to $2.99 per gallon+ GasBuddy data shows a shift in fuel pricing trends.  County 17
  • Powder River Energy Corp. submitted a Cost of Power Adjustment to the Wyoming Public Service Commission Friday, Oct 31, after Basin Electric’s 9.8% rise in wholesale costs led to a planned 1% rate increase—causing residential customers to pay roughly $1 to $2 more per month. PRECorp CEO Brian Mills will host a telephone town hall on Nov 20 at 6:30 p.m. to review the details.  County 17

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lawmakers at a two-day meeting earlier this week agreed on a draft proposal to raise the weighted average teacher salary to $70,000 to help address a dwindling applicant pool for schools—lawmakers will refine the proposal at the committee’s Jan. 22—23 meeting in Cheyenne as they balance calls for higher pay with pending funding for other education services.  County 17

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Stacker made a list for Wyoming that shows the hottest Novembers since 1895 using data from the National Centers for Environmental Information — the list shows that November 1999 was the warmest with an average temperature of 38.8°F.  Wyoming News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On November 2, the Campbell County Fire Department responded to nine incidents—eight medical emergencies and one hazardous material investigation across Gillette. The department has handled 2,680 service requests year to date.  County 17
  • Gov. Mark Gordon signed two executive orders Friday—one to use state funds for food pantries as an alternative to SNAP and one to promote healthier practices—to help Wyomingites access food amid federal policy changes. The measures are intended to boost state efforts in feeding residents and improving overall health.  Gillette News Record
