CULTURE NEWS

  • The Wyoming Poet Laureate will lead a poetry workshop at the local library hosted by Prairie Pens Writers Group — the event features a workshop from 10–11:30 a.m. and an open mic from 1–3 p.m.  Gillette News Record
  • Wyoming artists must submit artwork by October 18th for the 2026 Governor’s Capitol Art Exhibition—judged by Kate Hlavin from Denver. The event, which began in 2000 under Governor Geringer, will display selected pieces in the state capitol next year.  Wyoming News Now
  • The Gillette Chamber Singers performed their fall concert at First Presbyterian Church Saturday night — they joined forces with students from the school district and performed to the theme 'Singing is my Forte.'  Gillette News Record

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Hunters are advised that unit 116 in northeast Wyoming has tested positive for chronic wasting disease—an incurable infection affecting deer, elk and moose. The Wyoming Game and Fish Department found one infected adult cow and asks hunters to submit their harvest samples for testing.  County 17

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Wyoming’s Energy Authority is recommending a $100 million grant to support BWXT’s TRISO nuclear fuel plant in Gillette and nearly $10 million for carbon capture work and a possible new coal unit in Campbell County. The agency will accept public comments on these proposals until Nov. 25—another $343,000 grant for a carbon pipeline study is open for comments until Oct. 18.  County 17
  • Gov. Mark Gordon blamed the Freedom Caucus for its 'Club No' tactics that led Radiant Industries to leave plans for a micro reactor plant in Bar Nuun and move the project to Oak Ridge—local leaders worry the loss will affect future nuclear work. The company said clear rules were missing and state lawmakers will meet on Oct. 20 to talk about storing spent fuel.  Wyoming Public Media
  • The Campbell County School District Board of Trustees will meet Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Wright Junior-Senior High School to review expulsions, grant applications, facility updates and recognize community achievements such as bus driver Julie Parker’s life-saving CPR. The board will also address personnel matters and vote on meeting cancellations while inviting public comment—focusing on community safety and achievement.  County 17
  • Homeowners can now apply for Wyoming property tax relief that offers a 25% break for owner-occupied homes, a 50% break for older residents, and a $6,000 reduction for veterans & a 4% yearly increase cap that needs no application. Deadlines are Feb 1 for online forms and May 26 for in-person submissions at county assessor offices.  County 17
