  • Today, the Gillette Abuse Refuge Foundation is celebrating its 45th anniversary by hosting a free community event at Cam-plex Park from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.  Gillette News Record
  • Greta Maxfield has been named CEO of Make-A-Wish Wyoming and joined in September with years of experience helping children and families—she earned degrees from the University of Wyoming and Washington University in St. Louis and served in leading nonprofit roles before taking over from Morgan Poloncic.  County 17

ECONOMY NEWS

  • New data show Wyoming's cement-masons and concrete-finishers had the fastest wage growth in construction with wages rising from $45,010 in 2019 to $58,220 in 2024. Contractors report that the state still faces a severe labor shortage as hiring skilled workers remains challenging.  Wyoming News Now
  • BWXT proposed a nuclear fuel facility to Gillette residents at the CAM-PLEX Tuesday night—promising local jobs and using local suppliers—while senior director Josh Parker explained that the plant would fabricate TRISO fuel without producing high-level waste. The project is set to support energy security as U.S. electricity demand grows.  County 17

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Attorneys general from Wyoming, Montana and 14 other states accused Amazon, Google, Meta and Microsoft of greenwashing by saying they mislead customers about clean energy use. They asked the tech companies to answer questions by Oct 27—raising concerns over utility practices and grid stability.  Wyoming Public Media
  • After the federal government shut down yesterday, Wyoming said it will cover paychecks for state employees with federal contracts using short-term protocols shared by Gov. Gordon’s chief of staff—procedures it followed in past shutdowns to protect essential services.   • The New Community Health Foundation’s Cancer Care Committee will host its annual Paint Gillette Pink walk today at 5:30 p.m.—inviting Gillette residents to join the effort to raise funds for cancer care.  Gillette News Record
  • Wyoming residents who get insurance through the Marketplace face sharp premium increases if Congress does not extend tax credits that lower monthly costs — Jessica Brauer and others now wait for the November 1 enrollment period as one provider stops offering plans and thousands risk losing coverage.  County 17
