COMMUNITY NEWS

  • First Lady Jennie Gordon’s Wyoming Hunger Initiative honored local anti-hunger volunteers today at a regional summit in Buffalo—partnered with the Hughes Charitable Foundation—to recognize work supporting food programs in northeast Wyoming.  County 17

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in Campbell County held near $2.95 per gallon last week even though the national average dropped to $3.09, according to GasBuddy data. Seasonal factors—such as the switch to cheaper winter gasoline and reduced demand—are expected to keep prices steady in the coming weeks.  County 17
  • Oil and gas companies purchased about $8.4 million in federal leases a couple weeks ago covering 40,000 acres with new, lower royalty rates. Wyoming leaders credited the change for boosting industry—while critics warned that taxpayers could lose an estimated $11 million over the leases’ lifespan.  Wyoming Public Media

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Campbell County is dry and warm with gusty winds and low humidity raising the risk of grassfires. The National Weather Service in Rapid City said temperatures will be above average through Thursday — strong south winds in Gillette and isolated showers in parts of northeastern Wyoming may increase fire danger.  County 17

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Bureau of Land Management is asking hunters and visitors to keep gates open so fire crews can reach emergencies quickly—parked vehicles blocking these access points can delay responses during wildfires and other emergencies. The reminder is especially important as fall hunting season brings more people into remote public lands.  County 17
  • On Sunday, Sept. 28, the Campbell County Fire Department responded to nine calls including medical emergencies and lightning-caused grass fires — one at Broken Fence Lane and one at O.R. Road that were contained to 0.2 and 4.1 acres, respectively, and a false alarm near Interstate 90; year to date the department has handled 2,428 requests for service.  County 17

HEALTH NEWS

  • Campbell County Health announced Monday that neonatal nurse practitioner Tracy Wasserburger was appointed to the American Academy of Pediatrics’ Section on Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine Council—she will bring Gillette’s rural health perspective to the national panel to improve newborn care.  County 17
  • Injury Prevention Resources has released a virtual roadway safety session that reminds drivers and passengers to buckle up because it only takes 3 seconds to secure a seatbelt and protect everyone. The nonprofit warns that no rider is safe until every seatbelt is fastened — it offers a contest for a chance to win big prizes through a brief online survey.  County 17
