ECONOMY NEWS

  • In this month’s federal oil and gas lease sale, 32 parcels covering 39,225 acres netted $8.5 million, but the new law’s lower royalty rate is predicted to cost taxpayers $11 million if fully developed. Industry officials say the lower rate may spur more leasing and drilling + conservation groups claim low average bid prices raise concerns about speculation.  County 17

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Campbell County School District board approved payment for employees who complete armed educator training—discussing methods like stipends or expense reimbursement to protect staff confidentiality—with details to be finalized by the policy committee. The board also reported academic gains, staff awards, new committees, and major projects including a stadium set to break ground in March and a main building project starting in October 2026.  County 17

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A section of Burma Avenue between First and Larch Streets will close Oct. 1-2 for repairs at the railroad crossing—traffic will be detoured west to U.S. 14 via Echeta Road or east to Brookes Avenue while TruGreen business access remains open from the north.  County 17
  • The Bureau of Land Management will offer over 3,500 acres of federal coal reserves in Campbell and Converse counties for competitive lease by sealed bid on Oct. 8 at 10 a.m. MST at the BLM Wyoming State Office in Cheyenne — the West Antelope III lease area, located 15 miles south of Wright next to the West Antelope Mine, holds 441 million tons of coal with only qualified bidders expected to meet market value.  County 17

HEALTH NEWS

  • Campbell County Health in Gillette has deployed temporary cell phones with AT&T/FirstNet service to key departments—due to ongoing Verizon connectivity issues—and urges patients to use the temporary numbers as call-backs will be provided by the end of the business day.  County 17
