COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Gillette Police Department will host Coffee with a Cop on Oct. 1 at City Brew Coffee, located at 2711 S. Douglas Highway, from 8 to 9:30 a.m.—the event is designed to build positive relationships between law enforcement and the community.  County 17
  • Campbell County High School is hosting its homecoming parade today at 4:30 p.m. — the event will take place on Gillette Avenue.  Gillette News Record

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Powder River Symphony will open its season on Sunday with a musical showcase titled 'Symphonic Dances — an Evening of Rhythm and Melody.' The program will feature sweeping waltzes and fiery folk music that highlight the ensemble's style.  Gillette News Record

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Today at 6 p.m. the Campbell County School District 1 Board of Trustees at the Educational Services Center in Gillette will discuss a pay structure for armed educators and the potential expulsion of three students who may return early on probation—administrators will also review contracts and nominate a candidate for an education award.  County 17
  • Northwest College in Powell has been awarded a $475,000 National Science Foundation grant to create a drone certificate program. The college will launch classes this fall — allowing students to learn to fly drones for surveying and archaeological work.  Wyoming Public Media
  • Gillette College passed a mock review with stand-ins for the Higher Learning Commission—although some concerns were noted that must be resolved before final accreditation. College officials plan to address these recommendations as they prepare for the next step in the process.  Gillette News Record

  • Gillette City Council is asking residents to share ideas on changes to nuisance ordinances—feedback will help guide new rules.  Gillette News Record
  • The U.S. House passed resolutions to overturn federal plans in Montana, North Dakota and Alaska but did not target Wyoming as conservation expert David Willms said the state followed its regular public review process—aiming to work with the public to improve land management plans.  Wyoming Public Media
