Gillette hosts a busy free weekend with events — Grinners Saloon presents a murder mystery today at 6:30 p.m., Dan Tyminski performs bluegrass at CAM-PLEX at 7:00 p.m., and Legends offers comedy tonight from 8 to 11 p.m. — along with a CCPL craft supply swap starting today and on Sept. 20 and a Gillette Fiction Writers Group meeting on Sept. 20 at the library.

Nearly 400 runners and walkers gathered on Tuesday at M&K Oil for the 15th annual Memory of the 8 event, honoring a significant legacy with community support.

Wildlife ecologist Chris Kirol said that after the House Draw Fire in August, key lek areas in northeast Wyoming lost nearly all sagebrush—replaced by cheatgrass and Japanese brome—and saw a 40% drop in sage grouse counts.

He warned that without enough sagebrush the birds may not breed well even though state counts show more birds overall this year.

The Bureau of Land Management said its oil and gas lease sale netted $8,450,944 after leasing 39,225.02 acres in Wyoming under the new One Big Beautiful Bill Act regulations—developers have 10 years to start production on the leased land.
