- ➤ Wyoming wildlife officials say the state’s compensation program for grass lost to overpopulated elk grazing has seen little interest from stockgrowers. The controversial program has not provided the expected financial relief—prompting officials to review its future. Wyoming News Now
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Misty Reynolds, an electrical engineering designer, was honored with the 2025 Second Quarter Pride Award at the Sept. 15 council meeting for her work updating the utility mapping software used by field crews and office staff. City utilities director Joff Pilon said she spent two months verifying 16,000 utility numbers—demonstrating her outstanding commitment to the city. County 17
- ➤ The Gillette City Council approved several public projects such as a water main upgrade in Sage Valley Estates, an outdoor workout facility at the Energy Capital Sports Complex, and repairs for Gurley Overpass, sewer lines and an electric transmission tie—these projects were funded by 1% sales tax funds and matching grants. The council also approved bids for upcoming sewer repairs and energy improvements to further support local infrastructure. County 17
- ➤ At its Sept.15 meeting, the Gillette City Council approved the purchase of two new utility vehicles—one 2026 garbage truck with a McNeilus refuse body and one Bobcat wastewater 4x4—with a combined cost of $487,040; the garbage truck bid of $459,220 was won by Floyd’s Truck Center, and residents should see both vehicles in service within two years. - ➤ Campbell County commissioners will vote on a resolution today that lets residents decide whether to store nuclear waste in the county—officials say the measure gives the public a direct role in the decision—while details on the vote and procedures remain pending. Gillette News Record
- ➤ The Gillette City Council approved both high schools’ homecoming parade routes at its Sept. 15 meeting. Thunder Basin’s parade will run on Sept. 29 between 4:30 and 5 p.m. along Saunders Boulevard, Sinclair Street, Enzi Road, College Drive, SlateStreet, and Christinck Avenue—while Campbell County High School’s route will begin on Eighth Street near the cemetery and Legacy Park and follow Carey Avenue, Seventh Street, Gillette Avenue, and Second Street on Sept. 24 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. County 17
