COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Friends of the Library will host its annual used book sale today at 9 a.m. to raise funds for library operations in Wyoming.  Gillette News Record
  • On Sept. 9 the Campbell County Fire Department responded to three calls—a medical incident at Cherry Lane at 4:56 p.m., a medical response on South Douglas Highway at 5:27 p.m., and a residential fire alarm on Greensburgh Avenue at 8:05 p.m.—and handled 2,257 service requests year-to-date.  County 17

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Wyoming Arts Council is accepting grant applications for three programs that fund arts projects until June 30. The Creative Aging Project Grant for adults 55 and older has a Sept. 29 deadline while the Professional Development/Career Advancement and Arts Access Project Grants require submissions six weeks before projects begin—funding is for the 2026 fiscal year.  County 17

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • University of Wyoming researchers found that mule deer avoid areas when cheatgrass covers more than 20% and said that if cheatgrass spreads further, nearly half of the current good deer land will become unusable in northeast Wyoming—threatening the deer over the next 20 years. Land managers will use a targeted herbicide to restore native plants and help mule deer come back—offering hope for the region.  County 17

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Senate President Bo Biteman reshuffled committee chairs after Sen. Darin Smith resigned and Sen. Eric Barlow stepped down from his role due to his gubernatorial campaign. Sen. Evie Brennan became chair of the Labor Committee—Sen. Bob Ide was named chair of the Agriculture Committee, and additional appointments were expected soon.  Wyoming Public Media

SPORTS NEWS

  • The University of Wyoming Cowgirl golf team started the season with a strong runner-up finish at the Wolverine Invitational in Saratoga Springs—breaking school records with a historic -11 score and a record-setting 68 from Elle Higgins. The team will next play at the Ram Classic on Sept 22—23 at Ptarmigan Golf Club.  County 17
