COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Shell Food Marts in Gillette are encouraging drivers to donate to the Boys and Girls Club of Campbell County (drive closes Oct. 31) to support the club's programs. Gillette News Record
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Wyoming’s 23 weed and pest control programs have lost funding from federal freezes and state tax cuts—this has made it harder for districts to treat invasive species like cheatgrass that harm farms. Weed coordinator Lindsey Woodward said districts now must plan for smaller cost shares on future projects. Wyoming Public Media
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Campbell County approved a nearly $1.1 million contract to replace the sheriff's office roof, awarding Lowe Roofing with a $1,008,960 bid; work will begin this fall and finish spring 2026. Commissioners also approved federal highway safety grants and a new CAM-PLEX operations role — bolstering public safety and local services. County 17
- ➤ At Tuesday's meeting the Gillette City Council proclaimed September as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, Hunger Action Month, and Suicide Awareness and Prevention Month after local advocates reported that Jason’s Friends Foundation now supports over 175 families, the Salvation Army delivered 2,326 food boxes last month, and 11 suicides have been recorded in Campbell County—signaling a rising need for community support. - ➤ On Sept 2, the Gillette City Council awarded a $297,189 contract to S & S Builders LLC to install up to eight ADA compliant bleacher shelters at the Energy Capital Sports Complex’s four softball fields. The $450,000 project was funded by a 50/50 match between the city’s general fund and a Land and Water Conservation Fund Grant from Wyoming State Parks and Cultural Resources. County 17
- ➤ Campbell County commissioners approved the name change of the Juvenile and Family Drug Court to Campbell County Youth Treatment Court so the new name better reflects the program’s focus. They also authorized a 45-day public comment period for updates to the Planning Commission’s bylaws—changes include updated state statutes and voting rules with a final hearing set for Oct. 21. - ➤ On Wednesday, the Campbell County Board of Commissioners approved grant applications for two Wyoming 250 library projects—one for a 25-station story walk at Wright Branch Library with $10,000 and one for a solar-powered tech bench with a statue at Gillette's main library—and also approved five District Support Grants totaling $41,582.04 to fund local water system upgrades and road maintenance projects. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Campbell County Board of Commissioners proclaimed September as Suicide Awareness and Prevention Month to boost mental health efforts after Gillette City Council made a similar declaration. Teddric Walker, a public health specialist, presented the measure noting that county records show 12 suicide deaths in 2024 and 11 so far in 2025. County 17
