COMMUNITY NEWS

  • LCpl. Jacob Ross Detachment #1425 of the Marine Corps League will host its annual 9/11 Memorial Run on Sept. 11—featuring a 5K run, walk and wheel race to benefit its Scholarship Fund and the Marines Helping Veterans initiative. Opening ceremonies will start at 5:45 p.m. with the race beginning at 6 p.m. from Fire Station 3 on Wenger Drive.  County 17

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Campbell County drivers saw gas prices hold steady at $3 for a second week even as the national average fell 3.4 cents to $3.15 per gallon. AAA reported Wyoming’s average increased to $3.10—keeping Campbell County among the state's cheaper fuel areas.  County 17

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gillette City Council meets tonight at 6 p.m. at City Hall to vote on big projects including playground donations, special event permits for a 9/11 run/walk on Sept 7 and a Mexican celebration on Sept 13 — they will also review engineering and zoning agreements and the meeting will air live on GPA-TV Channel 192.  County 17
  • Campbell County Commissioners and the Parks and Recreation board met last week to discuss the future of ice in the community—reviewing potential plans for its management.  Gillette News Record
  • On Sept 2, county commissioners and a state senator questioned secret meetings and an NDA with a nuclear company at the Gillette City Council meeting as the city explored nuclear energy—sparking concerns that closed talks had hurt trust between local officials.  County 17
  • On Monday, Sept. 1, the Campbell County Fire Department responded to several calls, including medical emergencies at multiple locations, a commercial fire alarm on South Burma Avenue, and a timber fire on Matz Road that was contained to 4.9 acres—crews stayed on scene into the later hours. The department has handled 2,186 requests for service this year.  County 17

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Tankhouse Nursery caretaker Ryan Schlatter advises local gardeners to water plants on warm days before winter—he also recommends planting annuals and mulching roses during August, September, or October to protect shrubs and bushes.
