- ➤ The new U.S. Attorney and FBI officials announced on Friday a scorched-earth crackdown on drug trafficking and illegal gun possession on the Wind River Indian Reservation and across Wyoming—issuing nearly 100 arrest warrants and making multiple arrests to hold dangerous criminals accountable. - ➤ Keith Matteri— a Wyoming inmate sentenced in Campbell County on Sept. 6 for methamphetamine and assault charges— died Aug. 13 at Tallahatchie County Correctional Facility in Mississippi after serving nine years of his 12-year sentence. County 17
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Rockpile Museum will host an event on Sept. 4 at 6 p.m. that presents details of the 1865 Battle of Bonepile Creek—featuring presentations from Justin Horn and Laurel Vicklund that explain the historic expedition and its archeological findings. County 17
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Wyoming officials launched the Frontier Token stablecoin on seven blockchain networks last week at the Wyoming Blockchain Symposium — the token is backed by $5 million from state funds to help pay for schools and other state programs. The token will be available for purchase through digital wallets and is expected to attract new money to the state even as some experts doubt it can rival private digital assets. Wyoming Public Media

- ➤ Advocates and education officials are drafting a bill that would create a literacy division within the state Department of Education to set up evidence-based reading programs for students. The working group will update the draft for review by lawmakers on Nov. 13-14 — a key step to enhance reading skills in Wyoming schools. Wyoming Public Media
- ➤ Speculative designs by DLR Group for the new Campbell County High School campus are nearly 10% complete and set for state review soon — marking the first milestone of the project. Gillette News Record

- ➤ Amber Potts has been named Wyoming DEQ’s Air Quality Division Administrator after Nancy Vehr (the former AQD head) was moved to deputy director. Potts (with 24 years of DEQ experience) brings strong expertise in air quality planning, monitoring, and permitting. County 17
- ➤ On Aug. 28, the Campbell County Fire Department responded to 12 incidents in Gillette that included medical calls, grass fires, an electrical fire, a citizens assist, and two oil tank battery fires—year to date, it answered 2,142 service requests. County 17
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ After the hospital delivery unit closed last year in Evanston, midwives opened new birth centers that offer natural and home-like care for low-risk pregnancies—helping fill the growing gap in maternity care throughout the Mountain West.
