ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On August 26, a trooper on I-80 near Rawlins was hit by a westbound semi-truck while responding to an earlier crash and taken to Rawlins Hospital, though he was not seriously injured—WHP reminded motorists to yield to emergency vehicles to avoid delays and fines.  Wyoming News Now

CRIME NEWS

  • A Gillette man identified as Travis Nichols was charged with felony assault—reportedly after drawing a knife on floor installers who refused to help him move furniture— and he is now out on a $7,000 bond.  County 17
  • A Gillette man drove his Chrysler van into a house on Aug. 25 while fleeing police and was charged with DUI, reckless driving, and eluding after a chase spanning five blocks—police reported a control collision forced his van off the road, leading him to run on foot before being caught.  County 17

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Joseph Kibler, a business owner and former firefighter, announced his run for governor on a promise of being something different as he aims to cut government rules and bring back Wyoming values. He said he will listen to local concerns and work to bridge a deep political divide—focusing on reducing bureaucracy.  County 17
  • A section of Gurley Avenue between 9th and 5th streets closes today for maintenance and will reopen Aug. 29. Crews will clean cracks and inject tar—steps that help stop damage—while the nearby overpass remains open.  County 17
  • On Aug. 26, the Campbell County Fire Department responded to 10 emergencies in Gillette including multiple medical calls, a two-vehicle collision, a carbon monoxide incident, a vehicle rollover with a fire, and two activated fire alarms + one single-vehicle collision; year to date, they have answered 2,124 service requests.  County 17
