ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ On Aug. 20, the Campbell County Fire Department responded to a structure fire on Silver Hills Court that damaged a shop and vehicles—investigators are still reviewing its cause—and to grass fires on Highway 59 and Overbrook Road, plus a cancelled haul truck fire call on Antelope Road; the department has handled 2,073 calls year-to-date. ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Utilities are bracing for a surge in power demand from data center and AI projects that could nearly equal Wyoming's current capacity. Energy leaders and regulators will review proposals like the Crusoe-Tallgrass project and plans from Microsoft and Meta to ensure that new costs fall to those causing the demand. County 17
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ First Lady Jennie Gordon—leading the Wyoming Hunger Initiative—awarded $152,891 in infrastructure grants to 47 non-profit groups to help fight food insecurity; several Campbell County organizations received funds that will support long-term operations. County 17
- ➤ Gillette officials denied that the council broke state law by signing an NDA with BWXT Technologies in 2024, stating that the agreement complies with the Wyoming Public Records Act and is available in public archives. Mayor Shay Lundvall said he will soon host public sessions to discuss potential nuclear development—clarifying that the deal does not finalize any nuclear plans. County 17
- ➤ The Wyoming Transportation Commission awarded $22.7 million in contracts for seven highway projects during its August meeting, including a $2.08 million bid for intersection work in Gillette—most projects are funded with federal dollars. The contracts have completion dates from Oct. 31 through July 31 and cover work in several counties. County 17
- ➤ Wyoming lawmakers advanced a bill today that declares corner crossing is not criminal trespass by a 7-6 vote.
