GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Aug. 15, a panel of Wyoming lawmakers approved three election bills that will ban ballot drop boxes, require pen and paper ballots, and ban ballot harvesting for the next session—The committee will meet in November to review seven other related measures. Wyoming Public Media
- ➤ The Gillette City Council meets today at 6 p.m. to review and likely approve several public improvements funded by optional 1% sales tax funds—projects include a CAM-PLEX lift station upgrade by DRM Inc. and a new playground at Hidden Valley Park. The meeting will also consider water and sewer work, City Hall renovations, and a contract for the Shoshone Avenue Beautification Project. County 17
- ➤ Today the Campbell County Board of Commissioners meets in Gillette to review contracts for county services, sign a letter urging BLM to expedite a coal lease project that could extend Spring Creek Mine’s life, release the 2024-25 salary list for all county employees, consider new work positions including roles across various departments, award a liquor license for Los Comales LLC, and declare Aug. 23 as Childcare Appreciation Day for Gillette and county. The board also will address bid awards, board appointments and employee recognitions — decisions that could support local economic growth. County 17
- ➤ Crews will begin surfacing repair work on Warren Avenue from Aug. 20-27 with a partial closure of the southbound lane between 6th and 7th Street. Yellowjacket Construction will complete the work — no detour is needed for residents — and commuters can continue traveling as usual. County 17
