ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 73-year-old Florida man named Joseph Pandolfi died in a motorcycle crash near Newcastle when his bike turned left into the Mule Creek Junction rest area in front of a Toyota 4Runner on US 85 + two others were injured as driver inattention was named a possible factor.  County 17

CULTURE NEWS

  • Campbell County Rockpile Museum will host a lecture by guest speaker Lee Silliman on August 14 at 6:00 p.m. that explores Frederic Remington’s early engravings and his role in capturing the final chapters of the American frontier, with free admission at the museum (900 West 2nd Street).  Campbell County

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in Campbell County jumped nearly a quarter to $3.03 per gallon last week—GasBuddy data show the national average rose to $3.11 per gallon, marking a modest increase overall.  County 17

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gillette City Council and Utilities Director Joff Pilon celebrated Brian Law for 30 years of service yesterday as he was honored for his work from starting in 1995 as an electrical locater to leading new metering projects (he is known as Bubba in the utility division). His career highlights include promotions to lineman roles and key contributions that helped complete a city project $300,000 under budget.  County 17
  • The Gillette City Council met Monday night to award $8 million in contracts for projects that will fix roads, improve drainage, add a water line at the airport, and renovate a homeless shelter—funded by sales tax, grants, and past tax revenues. Some work will start in the fall while other projects continue into summer to upgrade the city.  County 17
  • Starting next October, Wyoming’s Department of Family Services will cover 75% of SNAP processing costs, which means the state will need about $3 million more each year and change work rules so that more adults and some parents must meet work requirements. Officials said keeping error rates below 6% is vital — if they rise, penalties will add extra costs and SNAP-Ed funding will end in September, cutting $1.8 million.  Wyoming Public Media
  • The Gillette City Council approved a $10,000 donation from the city's general fund surplus to support the third year of the Energy Capital Startup Challenge, which helps local business pitches in Campbell County (Gillette College will add $40,000).  County 17
  • On Sunday, August 3, the Campbell County Fire Department responded to several incidents in Gillette—these included multiple medical calls, a timber fire at mile marker 157, and vehicle collisions and rollovers from early morning to late evening. The department has so far handled 1,921 service requests this year.  County 17
