- ➤ National Night Out will take place Tuesday, August 5 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Third Street Plaza in downtown Gillette as part of a national effort to improve relationships between law enforcement and residents. Campbell County Public Health will host a walk-in childhood immunization pop-up clinic on August 25 at the East end of the Walmart parking lot (2300 South Douglas Highway) to offer essential vaccinations for children. - ➤ On July 31, Peabody Energy released its Q2 report showing a net loss of $27.6 million for shareholders but noted strong performance in its Powder River Basin division where coal sales reached 20 million tons and adjusted EBITDA climbed from $17.8 million to $43 million compared to last year—new federal law is expected to bring 15 to 20 million dollars in benefits later this year. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Campbell County Sheriff’s Office said it found a deceased female near Old Farm Road at 7:08 a.m. on July 30 after a 911 call and is investigating her death as possibly self-inflicted by a gunshot while no threat to the public remains and further details will not be released to respect the family's privacy. ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Between 2005 and 2023, Wyoming's fertility rate dropped from 71 to 55 babies per 1,000 women—one of the sharpest falls in the Mountain West. Economic pressures like high living costs, a housing crisis, fewer maternity providers, and a slowdown in the energy sector contributed to the decline. Wyoming Public Media
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Brian Nesvik, a Casper native who led Wyoming’s Game and Fish Department (2019–2024), was confirmed by the Senate as director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Gov. Mark Gordon praised Nesvik and said he will work with him on western issues (including delisting grizzly bears) as his role expands nationwide. County 17
