  • Stacker compiled a ranking using U.S. Census Bureau 2023 estimates—this ranking shows the biggest sources of immigrants to Wyoming. Mexico leads with 8,057 residents making up 39.56% of the foreign-born, followed by Canada and China.  Wyoming News Now
  • Community members gathered at Cam-plex on Saturday afternoon for the sixth annual Red, White and Blue BBQ to support local veterans—attendees enjoyed grilled specialties and a welcoming atmosphere during the event.  Gillette News Record

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On July 29, Campbell County firefighters responded to a cooking-related fire in a Gillette apartment building without sprinklers and evacuated all residents and pets — although one cat was later found dead as the fire was brought under control at 2:01 p.m. while residents received aid from the American Red Cross.  County 17

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Wyoming ag producers reported mixed results by mid-year—southeast wheat yields fell about a third due to a dry winter while crops in the northeast and Bighorn Basin remain strong. Cattle ranchers are benefiting from record high beef prices as imports drop and are watching trade policy and hay production issues for the season.  Wyoming Public Media

  • Wyoming attorneys appealed to the State Supreme Court to overturn a recent court ruling that found public schools were underfunded, arguing there was not substantial, objective evidence of measurable harm to students—claiming the decision misrepresents the state’s already ample funding. The appeal criticizes the court for forcing further litigation while the state maintains its current educational spending meets established benchmarks.  County 17

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Fire season in Wyoming continues with three wildfires active. The Muddy Fire on state lands five miles east of Casper Mountain covers 67 acres with 25% containment, the Vees Fire near Ten Sleep spans 4,500 acres with no containment & the Phillips Fire in the Bridger Teton National Forest is about one acre and may grow as firefighting teams keep watch.  County 17

  • Gillette city officials will review the permit approval process and fee structure—changes that will help local contractors secure permits more quickly and reduce costs.  Gillette News Record

  • Campbell County Health announced today in Gillette that Dr. Billie Wilkerson, a local native with over 20 years experience in family medicine, has joined the Family Medicine staff to provide obstetrics and pediatrics care. She worked at Family Health before and now will help improve local healthcare.  County 17
