COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Gillette residents can look forward to the Campbell County Fair from July 25 to Aug. 3, which will feature 4-H events, livestock contests and rodeo shows at the CAM-PLEX facility—activities include check-ins, contests and market weigh-ins scheduled throughout the week. County 17
- ➤ A subdivision south of Gillette is under elevated evacuation status as wildfires spread across Campbell County's dry, brushy grasslands, and residents are advised to have emergency kits ready and fuel in their vehicles (the Campbell County Fire Department shared an active fires map). County 17
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Wade Shear, a 42-year-old from Gillette, was sentenced to 25 years in federal prison after his April 30 conviction for trafficking over 500 grams of methamphetamine—trial evidence showed he transported drugs between Wyoming and Colorado and a June 22 traffic stop near Chugwater found meth hidden in his vehicle. ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Campbell County’s gas price dropped 9 cents this week, making it the state’s second cheapest—this follows a national drop of 1.7 cents to $3.09 per gallon. The national average is down 11.5 cents from last month and 37.7 cents compared to a year ago. County 17
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Campbell County Commission meets today at 9 a.m. to review an agenda that includes grant awards for Juvenile Services and Public Health — letters of support for local initiatives and a request to purchase a landfill scraper. The meeting also considers extending the deadline for sewer repairs at the Pronghorn Industrial Complex — and viewers can watch on GPA-TV channel 192. County 17
- ➤ The Campbell County Fire Department reminds Gillette residents that fire restrictions remain in effect amid dry summer conditions—burning garbage is allowed only from 6 p.m. to 8 a.m. if conditions are safe and proper guidelines are followed. The rules started on July 6 and will stay until more rain brings relief. County 17
- ➤ Today at 6 p.m., the Gillette City Council will meet to review and approve contracts for construction projects such as a large patch project, elevator modernization, and repairs at the wastewater facility. The council will also renew a sampling agreement to monitor viruses and bacteria — it will reject bids for an addition to the animal control project and the meeting can be watched on GPA-TV channel 192.
