CRIME NEWS

  • A Gillette teenager named Noah Maschonas faces up to 20 years in federal prison and a $10,000 fine after a July 4 crash on Interstate 90 killed his 19-year-old passenger when he was reportedly driving under the influence of marijuana — his hearing will be held on July 23 in Campbell County Circuit Court.  County 17
  • A Gillette man is accused of violating a protective order and stalking his former partner after she spotted a sign with a personal message along her work route on June 20 — he faces felony and misdemeanor stalking charges with a preliminary hearing set for July 24 at 9 a.m. and a cash-only bond of $25,000.  County 17

CULTURE NEWS

  • Steven Horn is a Wyoming author who writes mystery novels blending state history, local people and culture — he is on a press tour for his latest book Lost and Found Café that will take him to Cheyenne, Thermopolis and Casper.  County 17

ECONOMY NEWS

  • An economic analysis finds that federal Medicaid cuts will cost Wyoming nearly 200 jobs per year and shrink the state's economy by $140 million over five years—reducing annual disposable income by $14.6 million. The report projects that expanding Medicaid will add 440 jobs and boost GDP by $60.9 million per year from 2026 to 2030.  County 17

  • At AVA's Kid's Camp, children used clay to create miniature worlds — they learned art iconography by turning images into clear expressions of their ideas.  Gillette News Record

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The U.S. House Natural Resources committee passed a resolution by a 20—19 vote on July 15 to delist grizzly bears from endangered status in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. Congresswoman Harriet Hageman stated the move follows a rise in bear numbers to over 1,000 while critics warn it could lead to increased bear encounters and hunting risks.  Wyoming Public Media

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Monday, July 14, the Campbell County Fire Department responded to several incidents including a smoke investigation on Highway 51, grass fires from lightning or a downed power line, and multiple medical emergencies—while the Bureau of Land Management managed a 75-acre fire and units contained smaller fires. The department has handled 1,730 requests for service year-to-date.  County 17
