ECONOMY NEWS

  • A federal report shows Wyoming produced 2.7 million more tons of coal in the first quarter than last year—coal job numbers declined at the same time. Federal projections indicate overall production will decline even after this short-term boost as the industry continues its long-term downward trend.  Wyoming Public Media

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University of Wyoming’s Haub School approved two new online certificates in environmental law and policy and in collaborative practice to meet rising demand for flexible training. Applications will open soon and courses start this fall, with each nine-credit program (stackable into the online master’s degree) approved by the UW Board of Trustees in May (boosting access to practical learning).  County 17

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The NRC cut seven months off the review for TerraPower’s Natrium reactor near Kemmerer—finishing the final impact report by Dec. 31. The plant is planned to start in 2030 and will be Wyoming’s first commercial nuclear power plant.  County 17
  • The Campbell County Commissioners approved a $145.9 million budget for fiscal year 2025–2026 this week — the amount is nearly identical to last year's.  Gillette News Record
  • Wyoming ended most gun-free zones on July 1 so that people can carry hidden guns in places like schools and airports—officials say the change protects Second Amendment rights. An analysis by the Gun Violence Data Hub found that states with similar law changes had more gun injuries and incidents after easing restrictions—experts worry Wyoming may face similar challenges.  Wyoming Public Media

HEALTH NEWS

  • Campbell County Health announced that it will upgrade patient care with a new Epic Electronic Health Record system and MyChart—Epic’s patient portal that goes live on July 19. Patients will use MyChart to check records, manage appointments, and request prescription refills through the website or mobile apps.  County 17
