Gillette offers a weekend of events: a June Art Exhibition at AVA Community Art Center in Glenrock Friday 6–8 p.m., a DirtCar tour at Thunder Speedway at 7 p.m. & a BTK Detailing car show Saturday 11 a.m.–3 p.m., plus Bowling for the Brave on Sunday at Camelanes 1 p.m.

Summer’s Last Stand will bring well-known rock bands SWITCHFOOT and Hoobastank to the Wyoming Center at CAM-PLEX on Saturday, Aug.

29, with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. and music starting at 7 p.m.; the event offers RV camping, food trucks, and VIP tailgating as a community sendoff to summer.

On June 22, an EF-2 tornado touched down in Campbell County near Savageton and Wright, damaging a home on Black and Yellow Road with 115 mph winds and snapping power poles while producing golf ball sized hail; no injuries were reported as the storm moved southeast from near the Bighorn Mountains.

A Stage 1 Fire Prevention Order remains in effect since March 19 due to dry conditions — the county has postponed the Independence Day Show at CAM-PLEX as fireworks and open burning are banned.

On June 24, Campbell County Fire Department responded to incidents in Gillette including an unauthorized burn on Hannum Road, multiple medical emergencies on Almon Drive, a collision on South Highway 59, and a mattress fire caused by fireworks near a dumpster.

Year-to-date, they answered 1,610 calls for service.
