Good morning, Gillette. Here's your local news at a glance for Thursday, the 26th of June.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Tuesday, June 24, the Campbell County Fire Department answered four calls—two medical responses on North Brooks Avenue, one medical response on West Valley Drive, and a gas odor call on Beaver Drive—and has handled 1,503 service requests this year.  County 17
  • The Boys and Girls Club of Campbell County will hold its 25th Children's Charity Golf Tournament on Saturday, June 28 at 8 a.m.; teams of four will play 18 holes to win prizes and a drawing for a one-night stay at the Lodge at Deadwood (registration fees range from $500 to $700). So far, 29 teams have signed up, and club leaders say the event (their largest fundraiser) will help fund kids' programs.  County 17
  • The Campbell County Parks and Recreation Department plans a full day of July 4 events in Gillette that starts with a pancake feed at 6 a.m. at the Campbell County Fire Department’s Rohan Ave station and ends with fireworks at 10 p.m. at Cam-Plex — a 4-mile race, parade, and family fun at Bicentennial Park are also scheduled.  County 17

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A federal lawsuit challenging Wyoming’s new voter registration law — which will require proof of state residency and US citizenship — is underway as Equality State Policy Center, represented by Elias Law Group, seeks a preliminary injunction to block the law from taking effect on July 1. Secretary of State Chuck Gray, defended by Dhillon Law Group and Gessler Blue, requested a three-week extension to file his response — a move that could lead to a lengthy legal contest.  County 17
  • Officials say Wyoming is facing a big shortage of firefighters — special fire districts find it hard to hire and keep workers. They worry the lack of firefighters may lead to more large wildfires across the state.  Gillette News Record
