CRIME NEWS

  • Legacy Living & Rehabilitation Center in Gillette issued a statement on the deaths of two patients as investigations continue, noting that 88-year-old Judith Duvall died from exposure and hypothermia earlier this year—which led to a felony manslaughter charge against Bernard D. Hale and the suspension of three staff—and that 66-year-old Rhonda Parker died from toxicity in November 2024 while the center has halted new admissions and is strengthening safety protocols.  County 17

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A new map from The Wilderness Society shows that under a GOP budget bill, iconic Wyoming landscapes such as Green River, New Fork and Fremont lakes may be developed for housing—up to 15 million acres in Wyoming are at risk for sale if the measure passes. Local ranchers and outdoor groups have warned that the revised bill, which now protects grazing rights, could change Wyoming’s way of life.  County 17
  • The Bureau of Land Management has opened a 30-day comment period on plans to sell 99 oil and gas leases covering 84,010.80 acres in Wyoming; comments are accepted until July 17. The agency finished scoping in May — it will use the feedback to complete its environmental review before granting drilling permits.  County 17
  • Campbell County will hold a public hearing on its proposed budget for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2026 on June 30 at 6:00 p.m. in the Commissioner's Chambers at the county courthouse in Gillette—any person may submit written or oral comments.  Campbell County
  • The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is considering changes to its rules on otters and guided fishing boat registration and is asking for public comments until July 31 at 5 p.m. The proposed rules will take effect Jan. 1, 2026 — they reclassify otters as non-game wildlife and set new requirements, fees and stickers for commercial fishing boats and trailers.  County 17
  • The Gillette City Council voted 5-2 on Tuesday to return $30,000 for Gillette Reproductive Health funding to the city's 2025-2026 budget during its final reading. The decision moves the funds back into the general budget — they were previously earmarked for reproductive health.  Gillette News Record
  • The State Building Commission approved emergency rules on June 17 for allowing constitutional and concealed carry in state buildings to meet the new Repeal Gun Free Zones Act that goes into effect July 1. The temporary rules will last 120 days—public comments are invited until June 30 and the commission will draft final rules within 30 days after the law takes effect.  Wyoming Public Media
