COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Cam-plex will turn 40 this year and the Joint-Powers Public Land Board approved a celebration plan+ promising special activities+ to mark the milestone.  Gillette News Record

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Scooter’s Coffee has opened its second drive-thru store at 91 Skyline Drive in Gillette — run by the Jeffries family who opened the first store in December 2023 — and will hold a grand opening on Friday, June 27 where customers can buy one drink and get one free using the mobile app.  County 17

CULTURE NEWS

  • Local audiences will see The Chips Are Down, or Virtue Triumphant O’er the Laws of Chance, a musical melodrama scheduled for performance at American Legion Hall by special arrangement with the Pioneer.  Gillette News Record

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Gillette City Council approved an ordinance on June 17 allowing concealed carry of firearms in city government spaces—voting 6-1 as a motion to allow open carry failed. The rule will take effect on July 1.  County 17
  • Today the Campbell County Commission approved a plan to temporarily close a section of Old Highway 59 for two drag races this summer, with the road closed from Aug. 8 to Aug. 10 and from Sept. 12 to Sept. 14 for setup, racing, and teardown. Organizers say the events will offer a safe, controlled venue for racers and spectators—county safety measures and insurance plans have been put in place.  County 17
  • Today, Gillette Reproductive Health executive director Julie Price Carroll presented the clinic’s request for 1% tax funding to the Campbell County Commission after a 4–3 city council vote on June 5 denied the proposed $30,000. Commissioners remain cautious—citing other available healthcare options—and a final decision on the funding is still pending amid active community support.  County 17
  • The Gillette City Council approved closing the 200 block of Rockpile Boulevard and easing open container rules for a July 4 block party outside American Legion Post #42 headquarters from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.—only that block will be closed to traffic. The council also passed permits for a Sept. 20 church closure, property resubdivisions, and the Fiscal Year 2025-2026 budget.  County 17
  • On Monday, June 16, the Campbell County Fire Department responded to six calls. They handled a 5:27 a.m. medical call on Four Corners Road, a 1:49 p.m. home fire alarm on Red Lodge Drive, a 5:31 p.m. vehicle fire on Interstate 90 at mile marker 102, a 6:16 p.m. medical call on East 8th Street, a 6:27 p.m. citizen’s assist on Interstate 90 near mile marker 138, and a 6:49 p.m. hazardous material investigation on Badger Avenue—and overall answered 1,450 calls year to date.  County 17

HEALTH NEWS

  • Campbell County Health announced the grand opening for Home Medical Resources at its new and bigger location at 1201 W 2nd Street in Gillette. The community is invited to join the event on Monday, June 24 from 4 to 6 p.m. — the expanded space will let HMR serve more local patients.  County 17
