- ➤ Gillette’s summer concert series will kick off next week when a temporary community space downtown opens—concerts are set for Tuesdays in the Gardens and Thursday Nights downtown. The events will bring live music to the city as the warm weather arrives. Gillette News Record
- ➤ On Sunday, June 15, the Campbell County Fire Department responded to a 1:20 a.m. medical call on Harder drive, a 7:00 a.m. fire alarm on Decker Court, and a 6:21 p.m. report of smoke on Wolff Road when they found it came from a grill—year to date they have handled 1,444 service requests. ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Gasoline prices are rising again after a two-week drop—nationally, the price increased 1.1 cents to $3.08 per gallon while Campbell County saw a 6-cent rise to $3.09, and further hikes are expected as tensions between Israel and Iran boost oil prices. County 17
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Wyoming Education Association and nine parents filed a lawsuit on Friday in Cheyenne to stop the state voucher program that gives $7,000 per student to private schools and shifts public money away from local education. The complaint names state superintendent Megan Degenfelder and state treasurer Curt Meier and claims the program violates the state constitution and harms rural schools — a move that could weaken public education in many communities. - ➤ On June 10, the Campbell County School District 1 Board of Trustees approved a consent agenda that funds key measures including new vehicles, a commercial insurance renewal for more than $1.6 million, and contract extensions for educational and support services — such as a two-year extension with CharacterStrong. The vote was unanimous and approved bids include contracts for trucks, snow plows, and nutritional supplies that will support school operations through the school year 2027 to 2028 — a move set to enhance district resources. - ➤ The Gillette City Council meets today at 6 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall to review the final fiscal year budget reading, vote on a gun ordinance that may allow lawfully concealed carry in city facilities, and consider several land development proposals including a gas easement vacation for 202 S. Gillette Ave.—The meeting also features public hearings on a $6,380,059 budget amendment and votes on special event permits such as a Fourth of July celebration and a walking prayer by Saint Matthews Church. - ➤ Campbell County Public Health named Teddric Walker as the new community prevention specialist, funded by the Wyoming Department of Health’s Community Prevention Grant Program, to work with local groups on alcohol, tobacco, drug, and suicide prevention during Men’s Mental Health Month. Walker, who brings a law enforcement background + community engagement experience, will also serve as an umpire in the 2025 Babe Ruth World Series in Ocala, Florida. County 17
- ➤ At its meeting on May 7, the Campbell County Board of Commissioners held a public hearing on a request by 307 Outlaw Streets LLC to temporarily close Little Powder River Road for drag racing events scheduled for Aug. 8—10 and Sept. 12—14, with set-up on Fridays and Sundays and racing on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.—the board also reviewed grant amendments for the Northeast Wyoming Regional Airport and Pronghorn Industrial Park while delaying a vote on the road closure until today.
