COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Saturday, local families enjoyed live horse racing at CAM-PLEX Energy Downs where gates opened at 12:30 p.m. and a car show was held at 10 a.m.—both events helped residents unwind after the week. Shrek the Musical featured local performers on June 6 and 7—and additional shows are set for June 9 and 10.  County 17
  • A Gillette resident won a new GMC Sierra 1500+ the grand prize in a Menards sweepstakes held this month.  Gillette News Record

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Visionary Broadband finished a project in Campbell County using $1.26 million in federal funds and over $1 million in matching investments—this work added 11.5 miles of fiber cable along with a new communications tower and other links to bring high-capacity internet to over 100 homes on Force Road and an extra 30 to 40 in Oriva Hills while improving service in Wright.  County 17

CULTURE NEWS

  • Randy Travis will bring his More Life Tour to the CAM-PLEX Heritage Center Theatre in Gillette on Aug. 25, where his band and guest singer James Dupré will play his top hits. He will join his wife Mary on stage instead of singing due to a 2013 stroke—tickets are on sale.  County 17

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • At its meeting Tuesday, the Gillette City Council voted 6+1 on the second reading of a new ordinance that allows concealed carry in most situations but bars open carry at city facilities.  Gillette News Record
  • During Tuesday night’s meeting, four Gillette City Council members voted 4—3 to remove $30,000 in Optional 1% Sales Tax funding from Gillette Reproductive Health, stripping the program of extra resources.  Gillette News Record
  • The Campbell County Fire Department responded on Friday, June 6 to six calls including a vehicle collision at the intersection of Bypass Road and North Highway 59 and medical calls at Ash Meadows Drive, Tyler Avenue, Wrangler Road and West 2nd Street—bringing year-to-date responses to 1,388 calls.  County 17
  • Campbell County Commissioners are considering a proposal from a local group to hold organized drag races on a road north of Gillette— they will announce a final decision later this month.  Gillette News Record

SPORTS NEWS

  • Nine local junior high rodeo athletes will compete at the National Junior High Finals Rodeo in Des Moines, Iowa from June 22 to 28 — they earned their spots with strong performances, with Bridger Schwenke set to ride in the saddle bronc steer event. The finals will feature around 1,200 middle school competitors from 43 states, five Canadian provinces, Australia and Mexico as they vie for scholarships and prizes.  County 17
