Counties in northeast Wyoming are seeking a federal FEMA grant to map burning coal seams from last year’s wildfires as fire warden Cheguis estimated 215 seams are active and warned that without funding the counties may cover up to $1 million in costs—mapping will use aerial surveys to locate these hidden fires.

Gillette City Council advanced a concealed-carry ordinance to the third reading during a Tuesday night meeting that would allow lawfully carrying citizens to bring their weapons into city facilities and council meetings while keeping bans in municipal court and the police department. The ordinance must pass one more reading, be signed by Mayor Shay Lundvall, and be published in the Newspaper of Record — a step to comply with the Wyoming Repeal Gun Free Zones Act — to become law.

The Gillette City Council will convene at 6 p.m. on June 9 at City Hall (201 E.

5th Street) to conduct the second reading of the proposed city budget for fiscal year 2026 and review a request to close half of 3rd Street Plaza for one month during the Downtown Thursday Night Concert Series; the budget will require one more reading before it takes effect on July 1.
