CRIME NEWS

  • A Gillette man — previously sentenced in 2016 for possessing 10 pounds of marijuana — may face up to 15 years in prison after deputies found 158 grams of fentanyl and 1.2 pounds of meth in his home.  Gillette News Record

CULTURE NEWS

  • Craig Johnson, the New York Times bestselling author of the Walt Longmire mysteries, will hold a public presentation in Gillette on June 11 at the Campbell County Public Library at 2101 S. 4-J Road. A meet and greet for Friends of the Library will begin at 4:30 p.m. and the presentation starts at 6 p.m.  County 17

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Mark Gordon has appointed Greg Steward as Circuit Court Judge for the Sixth Judicial District, filling the vacancy left by Judge Wendy Bartlett's retirement. Steward, who has served as deputy county and prosecuting attorney since 2021, will take office on July 3.  County 17
  • Gov Mark Gordon announced that Ryan Schelhaas is interim Attorney General after Bridget Hill left to join the state Supreme Court—Schelhaas, who served as deputy AG, will serve until the state Senate confirms a candidate during the 2026 legislative budget session.  Wyoming Public Media
  • Last week, Gillette residents gathered at City Hall to learn of draft proposals for improving the Donkey Creek Drainage corridor and Dalbey Memorial Park—the meeting aimed to gather input for future upgrades.  Gillette News Record
  • On Tuesday, May 27, the Campbell County Fire Department responded to six incidents including an odor investigation at Camel Drive, a rollover at North Highway 59 and Bypass Road, and emergency medical calls at Westhills Loop, Tyler Avenue and Red Hills Road. The department handled 1303 service requests year to date—its report shows a busy response schedule.  County 17
  • Wyoming lawmakers reviewed a 2020 law that required studies on carbon capture for coal power plants, with some warning it may raise electric rates and hurt the coal industry. They will meet on July 29 and 30 in Casper to decide if the law should be changed as demand for coal power continues to fall.  Wyoming Public Media
