  • Residents can now certify their homes with the Wildfire Prepared Home program as it expands into Wyoming; the checklist and optional contractor help ensure key steps like defensible space are in place (which may help lower insurance premiums) to protect against ember-caused fires.  Wyoming Public Media

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Wyoming Business Alliance will launch its second Voices of Business listening tour to learn about local business challenges. The tour will begin May 19 in Albany and Campbell County at Laramie Chamber Business Alliance and finish Aug. 20 in Goshen County at Eastern Wyoming College (free event).  Wyoming News Now

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Rocky Mountain Power has asked for a $70.5M rate hike that could raise bills by about 8.8% for 150,000 customers; the increase will be phased with most charges in March and a smaller portion in April 2027 + a fuel-cost adjustment may lower bills starting in July if approved.  County 17

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Wyoming Supreme Court reversed a judge's block on public funds for the universal school voucher program, allowing state officials to reopen education savings accounts. The Department of Education will soon call for voucher applications for the next school year.  County 17
  • Teachers in the Campbell County School District will get a $6.5K salary increase next school year — but the board noted concerns over funding for insurance and activities amid new state rules.  Gillette News Record

  • Third generation Wyomingite Kenneth R. Casner (75) filed his candidacy for governor on May 15 in Cheyenne and pledged to support working class voters without asking for donations; his campaign is rooted in a lifelong connection to the state.  County 17

  • A new report from Mental Health America shows Wyoming ranked 35 out of 51 for youth mental health, measuring teen mental illness and access to care.
