CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A 41-year-old man was arrested Thursday after trying to flee deputies west of Gillette when he allegedly drove the wrong way on Interstate 90+ hit another car+ and falsely claimed he had a bomb. Gillette News Record
- ➤ A 41-year-old man named Justin Yoder was arrested after his alleged bomb threat led to an hour-long closure on westbound I-90 on May 8—he led deputies on a high-speed chase that began on Montgomery Road, crashed into a vehicle injuring a 70-year-old man, and claimed he had a bomb before surrendering. County 17
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Campbell County commissioners in Wright approved two agreements for Spaeth Ranch (a county property bought in June 2024) last Wednesday. The board approved a scoria pit deal with Fuller Construction covering 26 acres at $1 per yard backdated to July, and a grazing lease with Doug Carr running from May 8 to May 7 (the winning bid was $143,001.01) to manage land use. - ➤ Local pastors have asked the Gillette City Council to cancel funding for Gillette Reproductive Health today—reviving a debate that ended five years ago when Campbell County Commissioners stopped using Optional 1% Sales Tax to fund the clinic. Gillette News Record
- ➤ At their meeting on May 7, the Campbell County Board of Commissioners approved $380,000 in contingency funds for fuel purchases at the Northeast Wyoming Regional Airport and awarded a $1,300,000 contract to Hoskinson Contracting to replace the terminal’s HVAC system— they also backed federal legislation to support coal leasing and accepted a donated 1999 Freightliner for the sheriff’s hazardous device unit. - ➤ Campbell County commissioners approved over $22,000 in district support grants for road improvements and dust control in four local service districts on May 7th—Public Works director Clark Melinkovich said additional grants will be considered in July using remaining funds from the Optional 1% Sales Tax fund. - ➤ The Campbell County Board of Commissioners proclaimed May as Mental Health Awareness and Prevention Month during a Wednesday meeting at Wright Town Hall, where Teddric Walker and Jane Glaser discussed boosting mental health support after 12 suicides in 2024 and 4 through April. The resolution urges community effort and offers ongoing training and a 24/7 contact number for crisis help—steps meant to connect residents with the support they need. County 17

- ➤ Four-year-old Cate (age 4) fulfilled her wish from Make-A-Wish Wyoming by visiting Cinderella’s castle during a memorable trip to Disney World after finishing an intense leukemia treatment.
