- ➤ On Saturday, May 9, Gillette residents can help fight food insecurity by placing a bag of non-perishable items by their mailbox for letter carriers to collect, with donations supporting local food banks & neighbors in need. County 17
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Wyoming Downs and 307 Horse Racing announced a $180M investment to build and renovate gaming facilities. A 58,000 sqft site on I-25 in Laramie County will open spring 2027 and an $80M project in Uinta County is expected to create 300 jobs + spur local business. County 17
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Tim Bessette, a theater and English teacher at Campbell County High School, received a Teaching Excellence Award for his student-centered methods and creative lessons. He has taught for nearly 21 years and uses team-building activities to help students reach their potential. County 17
- ➤ Campbell County School District Superintendent Alex Ayers assured staff that programs will stay funded even if the district uses its reserves due to state funding uncertainties after the recalibration funding bill passed. School leaders will monitor the situation closely. Gillette News Record
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The U.S. Forest Service announced a reorganization that will move its headquarters to Salt Lake City, replace nine regional offices with 15 ones, and merge research stations into a center in Colorado. Officials say changes will not affect district staffing but may leave the agency short for summer wildfire work. County 17
- ➤ Campbell County Recreation Center will close Monday for its annual cleaning as Rec Center + Public Works staff perform deep cleaning, maintenance and repairs. The scheduled shutdown will ensure the facility remains safe for community use. Gillette News Record
