COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Gillette Gun Club hosted its annual gun show Friday from 1–8 p.m., is hosting it today from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and will host it Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Gillette News Record

CRIME NEWS

  • Jordan K. Morris, a 22-year-old accused of shooting a 23-year-old man in the stomach during an altercation on Stanley Avenue on April 18, is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on April 28 in Campbell County Circuit Court—Morris claimed he acted out of fear for his child's safety.  County 17

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A new report shows that only 18.3% of Wyoming small businesses offer health coverage today—down from 28.5% in 2009 as rising healthcare costs have forced employers to cut benefits. Rising premiums have pushed many small firms to rethink or drop traditional insurance, affecting the number of employees with coverage.  Wyoming News Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Representatives for Campbell County School District employees presented their annual request to update salaries and benefits ahead of the upcoming school year+ the proposal totals about $10.56 and the district is now reviewing next steps.  Gillette News Record

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Mark Gordon will be the keynote speaker at the Campbell County Chamber of Commerce’s annual luncheon on Tuesday, May 8 at 12 p.m. at CAM-Plex in Gillette as he discusses economic development and Wyoming’s energy sector and will follow his address with a 20 minute question and answer session — media must RSVP to join.  County 17
  • Gillette City Council will hold a special budget workshop on Tuesday, April 29 at 5:30 p.m. in the second-floor Community Room at City Hall—city staff will show planned Capital Improvement Plan projects over $5,000 from several funds in a dinner and executive session. No public comment will be taken as the council schedules a FY26 budget hearing on June 3—ensuring the workshop is for information only.  County 17
  • Terri Lesley, a former library director with 27 years at Campbell County Public Library, filed a new federal lawsuit this week alleging that county officials and an activist family discriminated against her by firing her in July 2023 for opposing book censorship—her earlier suit against the Bennetts had allowed several claims to proceed and county legal representatives have not yet responded.  County 17

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Special Olympics Wyoming State Summer Games will take place in Gillette from May 1st–3rd, featuring competitions in athletics, basketball, powerlifting, and swimming at venues such as CAM-Plex and local schools. Local law enforcement will carry the Flame of Hope in a torch run on May 1st—community members are invited to cheer them on.  County 17
