CULTURE NEWS

  • The Campbell County Rockpile Museum is hosting the 4th Annual Sheepherder’s Festival on May 3 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the field behind the museum to honor the history of local sheepherders— the event will feature cultural performances, working dog demonstrations, live sheep shearing, historic sheep wagons and vendors.  County 17

ECONOMY NEWS

  • GILLETTE, Wyo. — Campbell County's cost of living index was 100 at the end of 2024, placing it in line with the state average. The biannual report from the Wyoming Economic Analysis Division covered six price categories — food, housing, apparel, transportation, medical and recreation and personal care.  County 17

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Wyoming State 4-H Foundation awarded more than $69,000 in scholarships to Wyoming 4-H students for the 2025-2026 school year—about $36,000 went to first-time winners while continuing awards were given to past recipients meeting GPA requirements.  County 17
  • Superintendent Megan Degenfeder announced the new Innovator Network to help Wyoming educators grow by sharing local teaching ideas and earning professional development credits using Canvas software—this program will be free for individuals and districts.  Wyoming News Now

  • Today is mostly sunny with a high near 54 degrees and winds at 6–10 mph. Rain will begin late tonight with a 70% chance and Thursday is expected to be the rainiest day with cooler temperatures—Gillette residents should prepare for a wetter week.  County 17

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Campbell County Board of Commissioners has called a special meeting for today with a workshop at 11:00 a.m. at Wright Town Hall (395 Lariat Way) and a regular business session at 4:00 p.m. at the county courthouse (500 S. Gillette Avenue) to review economic development input, bid proposals and staffing decisions.  Campbell County
  • Devon Energy donated software and equipment to the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office and Fire Department — a contribution that aims to boost emergency readiness — officials said.  Gillette News Record

  • Wyoming coal miners are at higher risk from black lung as federal cuts placed 25 health unit workers on leave—chest X-rays now go unreviewed. The number drawing federal benefits for black lung reached 52 last fiscal year, and experts warn miners in high-dust areas may miss early warning signs.  Wyoming Public Media
