COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ A 2024 report showed that overall dog adoptions dropped 1%, with private shelters down 2.6% and government-run shelters up 3% — longer stays for larger dogs have stressed shelter capacity. In a separate analysis, Ollie compiled Petfinder data from April 2 that found 243 dogs available for adoption in Wyoming — Mixed Breeds topped the list with 17, while Beagles and Labrador Retrievers each had 16. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Principal Dane Weaver told the Campbell County School District 1 Board that Rawhide Elementary, which has one class per grade and 104 students, improved its math scores from 41 percent to 50 percent last spring while setting new targets for the next school year. He said that Recluse Elementary uses multi-grade classes and after-school help to boost test scores and has laid out strong goals for future improvements. County 17
- ➤ Campbell County School District 1 trustees rescinded the planned 25‐cent meal price increase for the upcoming school year after Nutrition Services Director Bryan Young presented data on full‐pay and free meal participation. The board passed the unanimous motion following discussions on a pending lawsuit and recalibration of nutrition funding — a move that keeps district meal prices lower compared to others —. County 17

- ➤ On April 8, Wyoming House and Senate leaders met in Cheyenne to cut interim committee meeting days from six to four and give chairs more control on agendas—an effort to save state funds estimated at $120,000 to $140,000. Revised meeting topics must be sent to leadership by April 22. Wyoming Public Media
- ➤ On April 3, the Wyoming State Board of Land Commissioners voted to close an 618-acre section of state trust land 14 miles north of Gillette to recreational shooting for three years. Ranchers had requested the measure to stop littering, property damage, and cattle losses, and the area will still allow hunting, hiking, and day-use activities (the board may adjust the closure if a solution is reached). - ➤ The Wyoming Department of Transportation said all Wyoming driver’s licenses and ID cards now show a star—marking their compliance with federal Real ID rules by May 7. People with cards issued before Jan. 1 should renew them at Drivers Services offices—ensuring an accepted form of ID for federal access and commercial flights. County 17
