CRIME NEWS

  • The Campbell County Sheriff’s Office released a list of arrests and arraignments from April 8 that included charges from criminal inquiry to felony theft and controlled substance offenses—some names were withheld by law enforcement and charges may change after filing by the county attorney.  County 17

ECONOMY NEWS

  • U.S. coal production dropped from 578 million short tons in 2023 to 512 in 2024 and is expected to fall to 483 next year and 467 thereafter—according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration—due to rising mining costs, tougher environmental rules, and more competition from natural gas and renewables.  County 17

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Campbell County School District held its first community meeting Thursday evening to review the preliminary design of the new high school. Architectural teams chosen by the district led the meeting and shared the initial building plans.  Gillette News Record
  • Today, nearly one hundred elementary students from Campbell County gathered at Cam-plex Energy Hall to study chess boards and plan their moves for the districtwide tournament — a contest that tests their strategy and skill.  Gillette News Record

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Wyoming Game and Fish Department announced a mentored elk hunt opportunity for first-time youth and women hunters through the WY Hunt Fish program coordinated by Table Mountain Outfitters. The three sessions — for guardian/youth pairs, adult women, and youth — will be held in Newcastle and Chugwater in August, and applications are due by May 15 at 11:59 p.m.  County 17
  • Former Wyoming First Lady Sherri Geringer, wife of former Gov. Jim Geringer, died over the weekend after a long illness and just after celebrating her 58th wedding anniversary. She started state programs like Race For The Cure (per the Wyoming State Museum) and is survived by her husband and five children, with funeral services set in Cheyenne on Monday April 14th at 1 p.m. at Cheyenne Hills church and in Wheatland on Tuesday April 15th at 1 p.m.  Wyoming News Now
