ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in Gillette rose 5 cents on Monday to an average of $3.25 per gallon, with some stations selling fuel at $3.19—making Campbell County’s prices among the highest. AAA reported Wyoming’s overall average increased to $3.18 as experts point to low oil prices and recent tariffs affecting fuel costs.  County 17

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Campbell County School District 1 Board of Trustees met on January 14 at 6 p.m. at the Educational Services Center to celebrate the Thunder Basin High School Boys Wrestling and Campbell County High School Boys Basketball teams winning the 4A State Championships — they reviewed contracts and bids for school projects. Principal Dane Weaver presented academic reports for Rawhide and Recluse elementary schools — board chair Lisa Durgin appointed committee members and a recording of the meeting will be available on GPA-TV 189.  County 17

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Wildlife health officials in Gillette tested 5,276 samples for chronic wasting disease in 2024 and found that 19.4% of mule deer bucks were positive, up from 18.9% in 2023. The report shows CWD is now in most mule deer and elk hunt areas and the department will continue testing hunter-harvested animals for early detection.  County 17
  • Halladay Subaru has partnered with the Arbor Day Foundation to celebrate Earth Month and Arbor Day on April 25 by offering mature trees to local communities. Trees will be reserved through Halladay Subaru and must be picked up by April 12th (as part of the Subaru Loves the Earth initiative).  Wyoming News Now

  • Gillette will host Special Olympics Wyoming’s 2025 State Summer Games May 1-3 at several venues — Cam-Plex Wyoming Center, Campbell County High School Track, Thunder Basin High School Gymnasium, Campbell County Aquatic Center and Campbell County Recreation Center — where athletes will compete in athletics, basketball, powerlifting and swimming. The event will start with a Law Enforcement Torch Run on May 1 and include a youth summit with health screenings and an opening ceremony featuring Denver Broncos linebacker Alex Singleton — details provided by Special Olympics Wyoming —.  County 17
