CULTURE NEWS

  • On April 2, 2025, Wyoming Humanities announced that NEH grants were canceled, putting cultural and educational programs—such as community lectures and exhibits—at risk. The organization urges residents to contact their elected officials and consider donations to help preserve these programs.  Wyoming News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On April 3, the Campbell County Fire Department responded to four emergency medical calls at Bentley Court, South Douglas Highway and West Hills Loop. The department has handled 872 service requests this year — showing its active role in emergency response.  County 17
  • Rep. Tom Kelly (R-Sheridan) spoke on the House floor on the final day of session about his family's struggles with cancer, leukemia and heart surgery and how these experiences shaped his views on mental health care; he later voted against bills for K-12 mental health programs and diverting minor crimes to treatment while supporting a Good Samaritan law to aid those in crisis.  Wyoming Public Media
  • The City of Gillette released its final draft of the Comprehensive Plan to guide future policy and budgeting for the community. Public input is invited at a Planning Commission meeting on April 8 at 5:15 p.m. and a City Council meeting on April 15 at 6:00 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall — both meetings will help shape the plan's next steps.  County 17
  • Campbell County Parks & Recreation released an RFP for lawn care services covering county property sites with proposals due by 4:00 p.m. April 17. A walk-through is set for 9:00 a.m. April 10 at the Courthouse Annex and work will run weekly from early May to early October.  Campbell County
  • Mayor Shay Lundvall has scheduled a special meeting of the Gillette City Council and participating boards to discuss the budgets for the Joint Powers Fire Board and Campbell County Public Land Board; the meeting will be held on April 8 at 5:15 p.m. at the George Amos Memorial Building (412 S. Gillette Ave) and will continue until all business is concluded.  County 17
  • Campbell County Commissioners will hold a public hearing on April 15 at 10:20 a.m. in the Commissioner's Chambers at the Courthouse to discuss budget amendments for establishing an organization for the Fixed Based Operator under the Airport Department at Northeast Wyoming Regional Airport (FY24/25 budget items are included).  Campbell County
  • Tuesday night, the Gillette City Council approved a list of priorities for the coming years that puts the Gurley overpass replacement at the top to improve local infrastructure. The decision sets the stage for planned upgrades to roads and bridges across the city.  Gillette News Record
