COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Student councils from Campbell County and Thunder Basin high schools will host a gameshow night during the second annual Rivalry Week—designed to boost community engagement—and will test their skills during the event.  Gillette News Record

CRIME NEWS

  • Gillette man Jeffrey Cletus Geist, 58, was sentenced to 18 months in prison after Campbell County deputies found a 9mm handgun and three bags of methamphetamine during a March 12 traffic stop on his motorcycle—he pleaded guilty in December as a convicted felon not allowed to have a gun.  County 17
  • The Washakie County Sheriff’s Office announced that human remains found on March 23 have been identified as Breanna Mitchell using dental records from her dental office—her family has been notified and investigators are working to determine her cause of death. Mitchell was last seen in July when her vehicle became stuck and was later found abandoned along a rugged road.  County 17

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Monday, March 24, the Campbell County Fire Department responded to 11 incidents in Gillette—ranging from emergency medical responses to a vehicle rollover and a controlled burn check—and had handled 784 service requests so far this year.  County 17
  • The Campbell County Rec Center in Gillette is holding a bid process for food and beverage vendors to exclusively operate a full-service concession stand at the county pool this summer. Vendors must submit bids by 10 p.m. April 28 and the packet will be opened at 9 a.m. April 30 in the Recreation Center Canyon room—call Michaela Cina at 307-682-8527 to request a bid packet.  County 17
  • City staff have proposed budgeting $5.1 million for street maintenance today to reduce long-term repair costs — they say that spending more now will help avoid larger expenses later.  Gillette News Record
  • Gov Mark Gordon signed SF 107 that voids future non-compete agreements effective July 1—this measure aims to boost economic growth and improve local healthcare access. With the Legislature now in its interim off-season, lawmakers are studying committee bills to refine the process for future sessions.  Wyoming Public Media
  • Gillette-based S & S Builders LLC was awarded a $3.25M contract by the Wyoming Transportation Commission for a bridge rehabilitation project—work scheduled to be completed by November 30.  County 17
