CRIME NEWS

  • Jodie Wood, 54, faces charges of felony attempted second-degree murder and felony aggravated assault after he allegedly pointed his handgun at a 46-year-old man lying on N. Gurley Avenue yesterday — he dropped his firearm on a nearby rooftop when officers ordered him to put it down — Gillette Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said.  County 17
  • Local police arrested a man after they saw him point his gun at another man—investigation is ongoing.  Gillette News Record

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Campbell County Public Library Children’s Department is hosting a series of STEAM events during spring break to keep local children engaged with hands-on science—technology—engineering—art—math activities. The events will offer interactive learning opportunities for youngsters in the community.  Gillette News Record
  • Thunder Basin junior Braylon Weber said he was inspired by the Blue Collar Tour + his family's welding tradition, and local welding students will continue the craft + building on a long legacy.  Gillette News Record

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City Hall’s phone lines are down—911 calls cannot connect and residents are advised to call or text 307-299-6246 or use alternative contact methods in an emergency until the issue is resolved.  County 17
  • On March 18th, the Campbell County Board of Commissioners approved an updated Shared Roads Maintenance Memorandum of Understanding with Gillette. The agreement outlines which roads and bike paths each side will maintain—key updates include extending Boxelder Road while future maintenance of Fox Park Road remains under discussion.  County 17
  • Campbell County commissioners rejected a $500,000 request to upgrade ball field lights at Bicentennial Park due to concerns over shifting funds—while they approved a $13,677.18 drone purchase and a $17,944 HVAC replacement bid for the sheriff’s office. Officials said they will work on a more complete and fiscally sound park improvement plan in the future.  County 17
  • The Campbell County Board of Commissioners approved an $11,350 request from the Boys & Girls Club at 410 Lakeside Drive and reviewed a grant application for the Early Head Start program that seeks $440,570 in federal funding with a required local match of $110,143 for a five-year cycle starting July 1. The meeting on Tuesday, March 18, noted that the club currently serves 560 registered members with about 220 daily attendees and plans to expand its services to Wright in the fall.  County 17
  • Last week, the Campbell County Joint Powers Fire Board passed its proposed 2025-2026 budget which reflects a 7% decrease from the previous year.  Gillette News Record
