State Forester Kelly Norris reported at a recent meeting that 1,317 wildfires burned about 253,000 acres in 2025 and that suppression costs are tracking at about $21M. Most fires occurred on state and private lands— the largest being the Red Canyon Fire in Hot Springs County.
State lawmakers reviewed the Wyoming Health Department budget during a six-hour meeting on Sept. 30—where they examined funding priorities and cost-cutting measures. They will meet on Oct. 14 to study past cuts further and plan adjustments amid concerns about unsustainable spending.
